      Album Details

Immerse yourself in the captivating world of Kenneth Leighton's "Leighton: Symphony for Strings, Organ Concerto & Concerto for String Orchestra," a masterful collection of works that showcases the composer's extraordinary talent and versatility. Released on May 1, 2008, under the esteemed Chandos label, this album is a testament to Leighton's ability to blend choral and orchestral elements into a cohesive and compelling musical experience.

The album opens with the Symphony for Strings, Op. 3, a three-movement piece that begins with a haunting Adagio, followed by a contemplative Lento, and culminates in an exhilarating Allegro molto e vigoroso. Leighton's mastery of string writing is evident in every note, creating a rich tapestry of sound that is both intimate and grand.

The Organ Concerto, Op. 58, is a highlight of the album, featuring a powerful Lament in the first movement, a dynamic Toccata in the second, and a serene Chorale and Variations in the third. Leighton's use of the organ as a solo instrument is nothing short of breathtaking, showcasing his ability to create a sense of drama and depth.

The Concerto for String Orchestra, Op. 39, completes the album with three movements that are as varied in mood as they are in style. The Lento sostenuto of the first movement gives way to a Molto ritmico second movement, and the album concludes with an Adagio maestoso, alla marcia e largamente that is both majestic and deeply moving.

With a total duration of 1 hour and 14 minutes, this album is a journey through the mind and heart of Kenneth Leighton, offering a glimpse into the soul of a composer who was truly ahead of his time. Whether you are a seasoned classical music enthusiast or a newcomer to the genre, this album is sure to leave a lasting impression.
