      Album Details

Immerse yourself in the enchanting world of Franz Lehár, the renowned Austro-Hungarian composer, with the album "Lehar: Violin Works." Released on July 15, 2014, under the Hungaroton label, this collection showcases Lehár's lesser-known but equally captivating violin compositions, offering a fresh perspective on his musical genius beyond his famous operettas like "The Merry Widow."

Spanning a total of 1 hour and 16 minutes, the album features 13 tracks that blend romance, virtuosity, and charm. From the tender "Romantic Serenade" to the lively "Foxtrot" and the dramatic "Paganini, Act I: Violin Solo," each piece is a testament to Lehár's versatility and mastery of musical expression. The album also includes notable works such as "Romance in D Major, Op. 5," "Violin Concertino in B Minor," and "Hungarian Fantasy, Op. 45 (Arr. For violin and piano)," performed with exquisite skill by Leila Rásonyi and accompanied by the Franz Liszt Chamber Orchestra.

Whether you're a longtime fan of Lehár's operettas or a newcomer to his music, "Lehar: Violin Works" offers a captivating journey through the composer's violin repertoire, revealing the depth and richness of his musical legacy.

      About Franz Lehár

Franz Lehár, born in 1870 in Komárno, Kingdom of Hungary (now Slovakia), was a renowned Austro-Hungarian composer who left an indelible mark on the world of operetta. Throughout his illustrious career spanning over five decades, Lehár enchanted audiences with his lighthearted and comic works, becoming one of the most significant composers of operetta in classical music history. His most celebrated creation, "The Merry Widow" (Die lustige Witwe), achieved global acclaim and remains his most famous piece. Lehár's compositions are celebrated for their fine craftsmanship and enduring charm. Despite initial aspirations towards grand opera, it was his operettas that secured his legacy, making him the leading composer of operettas in the 20th century. Lehár passed away in Bad Ischl in 1948, leaving behind a substantial body of work that continues to captivate and inspire.
