      About Erika Köth

      Erika Köth, the German operatic coloratura soprano, captivated audiences with her extraordinary vocal range and emotive performances. Born on September 15, 1925, in Darmstadt, Köth overcame early challenges, including a childhood battle with poliomyelitis, to become a celebrated figure in the world of opera. She is best remembered for her exquisite interpretations of Mozart roles, particularly as The Queen of the Night and Constanze, as well as her mastery of works by Richard Strauss. Köth's career spanned decades, showcasing her versatility and technical brilliance. Her recordings, including collaborations with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, continue to inspire opera enthusiasts worldwide. Köth passed away on February 20, 1989, leaving behind a legacy of unforgettable performances that cement her status as one of the greatest sopranos of her time.
