      About Herbie Mann

      Herbie Mann, born Herbert Jay Solomon, was a pioneering American jazz flutist and a key figure in the early world music scene. Starting his career as a saxophonist in a military band, Mann soon made a name for himself by specializing in the flute, becoming one of the first jazz musicians to do so. His versatile career spanned a wide range of genres, including Latin jazz, Brazilian jazz, bossa nova, soul jazz, jazz funk, and cool jazz. Mann gained significant popularity in the 1960s and ventured into pop, Latin, reggae, and disco in the 1970s. His most notable hit, "Hi-Jack," topped the Billboard dance charts for three weeks in 1975.
