      About John Frederick Lampe

      John Frederick Lampe, born Johann Friedrich Lampe, was a prolific German-born English musician and composer, renowned for his contributions to the musical landscape of 18th-century Britain. Born in Saxony around 1703, Lampe migrated to England in his early twenties, around 1724, where he quickly established himself as a skilled bassoonist. His talent led him to be engaged by John Rich as the composer for Covent Garden Theatre in 1730, a position that highlighted his versatility and creativity. Lampe's compositions, which include the celebrated work "The Dragon of Wantley," showcase his ability to blend German musical traditions with the burgeoning English musical scene. His legacy endures, captivating audiences with his timeless compositions that continue to be celebrated and performed today.
