      Album Details

Immerse yourself in the enchanting world of Paul-Émile Ladmirault's "Poèmes symphoniques," a captivating collection of orchestral works that showcase the composer's deep connection to his Breton heritage. Born in Nantes, Brittany, Ladmirault's music is a vivid reflection of the region's natural beauty and rich cultural tapestry. This album, released in 2008 by Arion, features a selection of Ladmirault's most evocative symphonic poems, each a masterclass in atmospheric storytelling.

The album opens with "En forêt, poème symphonique," a two-part work that paints a vivid sonic landscape of the Breton forest. "L'aurore" and "Les amants" transport the listener to the heart of the woods, where the first light of dawn and the whispers of lovers come to life through Ladmirault's lush orchestration. The delicate "Valse triste pour piano & orchestre" follows, showcasing the composer's gift for melody and his ability to evoke a sense of longing and nostalgia.

"L'opéra Myrdhin, Acte 2: Prélude 'Brocéliande au matin'" offers a glimpse into Ladmirault's operatic works, with its hauntingly beautiful depiction of the mythical forest of Brocéliande. The remainder of the album is dedicated to "La brière, poème symphonique," a four-part work inspired by the marshy region of La Brière. From the melancholic "Paysage triste" to the lively "La foire d'herbignac," and the pastoral "Idylle dans le soir," Ladmirault's music captures the essence of this unique landscape and its people. The album concludes with "Légende - La forge de Trigniac," a dramatic tale of legend and lore.

Performed by the Orchestre de Bretagne under the direction of Stefan Sanderling, with Colette Diard on piano, this recording brings Ladmirault's music to life with warmth and authenticity. Whether you're a seasoned classical music enthusiast or a curious newcomer, "Poèmes symphoniques" offers an unforgettable journey into the heart of Breton music and culture.
