      Album Details

Immerse yourself in the captivating world of chamber music with Laurent Verney's "L'art de l'alto," a remarkable album released in 2007 under the Arion label. This exquisite collection showcases Verney's virtuosity on the viola, accompanied by the talented pianist Claire-Marie Le Guay. Spanning a duration of 1 hour and 1 minute, the album features 11 enchanting tracks that blend classical elegance with expressive depth.

The album opens with Carl Maria von Weber's "Andante e rondo ungarese, Op. 35," a piece that sets the stage for a journey through a variety of musical landscapes. Verney's interpretation of this work is both technical and emotive, highlighting his mastery of the instrument. The album continues with Robert Schumann's "Märchenbilder, Op. 113," a series of four pieces that paint vivid musical pictures, each with its own unique character and charm.

Verney's repertoire also includes works by Gabriel Fauré, such as the hauntingly beautiful "Élégie, Op. 30" and the dreamy "Après un rêve." These pieces showcase Verney's ability to convey a wide range of emotions, from melancholy to serene tranquility. The album concludes with Camille Saint-Saëns' "Fantaisie, Op. 39," a piece that demands both technical skill and artistic sensitivity, which Verney delivers with aplomb.

"L'art de l'alto" is not just a display of Verney's technical prowess but also a testament to his deep understanding and appreciation of the music. Each piece is performed with a level of nuance and expressiveness that brings the compositions to life, making this album a must-listen for any classical music enthusiast. Whether you're a seasoned viola aficionado or a newcomer to the world of chamber music, Laurent Verney's "L'art de l'alto" promises an enriching and enjoyable listening experience.
