      Album Details

Dive into the intimate and expressive world of chamber music with Kim Kashkashian's captivating album, "Kurtág, Schumann: Hommage à R. Sch." This exquisite collection, released in October 1995 under the prestigious ECM New Series label, showcases the profound artistry of Kashkashian, accompanied by Robert Levin on piano and Eduard Brunner on clarinet. The album is a masterful blend of compositions by György Kurtág and Robert Schumann, offering a rich tapestry of musical styles and emotions.

The album opens with Kurtág's "9 Pieces for Solo Viola," a series of deeply personal and evocative works that highlight Kashkashian's virtuosity and expressive depth. Each piece is dedicated to someone dear to Kurtág, adding layers of personal significance to the music. The album then transitions to Kurtág's "Jelek, Op. 5" and "Hommage à R. Sch., Op. 15d," which further explore the composer's unique voice and innovative approach to chamber music.

The second half of the album features Schumann's enchanting works, including "Märchenbilder for Viola and Piano, Op. 113," "Fantasiestücke, Op. 73," and "Märchenerzählungen, Op. 132." These pieces are characterized by their lyrical beauty, technical brilliance, and narrative depth, providing a perfect counterpoint to Kurtág's more introspective compositions.

With a total duration of 1 hour and 15 minutes, this album is a treasure trove for classical music enthusiasts. Kashkashian's impeccable technique and profound musicality shine through in every note, making this a standout performance in her illustrious career. Whether you're a seasoned classical music aficionado or a curious newcomer, this album offers a rich and rewarding listening experience.
