Krzysztof Meyer, born in 1943 in Kraków, is a renowned Polish composer, pianist, and music scholar whose extensive career spans over half a century. Meyer's educational background is impressive, having studied with esteemed figures such as Krzysztof Penderecki, Witold Lutosławski, and Nadia Boulanger. He served as the dean of the Department of Music Theory at the State College of Music in Kraków and later as the president of the Polish Composers' Union. From 1987 to 2008, Meyer held a professorship in composition at the Hochschule für Musik in Cologne, where he continued to influence a new generation of musicians. Beyond his composing and teaching, Meyer is also a prolific author, known for his insightful articles and monographs, particularly his acclaimed biography of Dmitri Shostakovich.
