      Album Details

Immerse yourself in the intricate world of Ernst Krenek's chamber music with this captivating album, released on June 7, 2011, under the CPO label. Spanning a concise yet impactful 57 minutes, this album presents two of Krenek's most notable works: his Symphony No. 4, Op. 113, and Concerto grosso No. 2, Op. 25.

The album opens with the Symphony No. 4, a three-movement composition that showcases Krenek's mastery of orchestral textures and emotional depth. The first movement, "Andante, tranquillo," sets a serene and introspective tone, while the second movement, "Adagio," delves into a world of profound melancholy. The symphony concludes with the energetic and rhythmic "Allegro pesante," leaving the listener in awe of Krenek's compositional prowess.

The second half of the album is dedicated to the Concerto grosso No. 2, a five-movement work that highlights Krenek's ability to blend classical forms with modern sensibilities. The concerto begins with the "Allegro molto moderato e pesante," a movement that balances intensity and restraint. The "Adagio" movement offers a moment of quiet reflection, followed by the lively "Allegro commodo." The concerto concludes with a gentle "Andante, quasi adagio" and a final "Allegro," leaving the listener with a sense of resolution and satisfaction.

This album is a testament to Ernst Krenek's enduring legacy as a composer of profound depth and originality. Whether you are a seasoned aficionado of chamber music or a newcomer to the genre, this album offers a rich and rewarding listening experience.
