      Ernst Krenek, born in Vienna in 1900, was a prolific and innovative composer whose career spanned nearly the entire 20th century. Known for his exploration of atonality and modern musical styles, Krenek's work is a testament to his versatility and pioneering spirit. He is perhaps best recognized for his jazz-infused opera "Jonny spielt Auf," which showcased his ability to blend contemporary influences with classical composition techniques. Krenek's extensive catalog includes 242 opus-numbered works, ranging from chamber music to operas and symphonies. His literary contributions, such as "Music Here and Now" and "Horizons Circled: Reflections on my Music," further cement his status as a multifaceted artist. Krenek's journey took him from Austria to the United States, where he continued to compose and write until his passing in 1991, leaving behind a rich musical legacy that continues to inspire.
