      Album Details

Immerse yourself in the enchanting world of Joseph Martin Kraus with this captivating 2007 release from Naxos. This album showcases Kraus's Violin Concerto in C Major, VB 151, alongside his incidental music for the play "Olympie" and the ballet "Azire." About Joseph Martin Kraus

Joseph Martin Kraus, a German-Swedish composer of the Classical era, was born in Miltenberg am Main in 1756 and passed away in Stockholm in 1792. Kraus, a contemporary of Mozart, left an indelible mark on the musical world with his diverse compositions, which include symphonies, chamber music, operas, and incidental music. His works, influenced by the reforms of Gluck, were foundational to the development of a Swedish national opera. Kraus was not just a composer but also a poet and a sharp commentator on musical style, engaging frequently in public discourse. His time in Vienna, where he served as a court composer and trusted aide to King Gustav, was particularly prolific. Kraus's music, characterized by its emotional depth and innovative spirit, continues to captivate audiences today.
