      Album Details

Immerse yourself in the rich tapestry of Armenian musical heritage with Komitas: Piano & Chamber Music, a captivating collection of works by the esteemed composer, musicologist, and ethnographer Komitas Vardapet. This album, released in March 2017 under the Grand Piano label, offers a profound exploration of traditional Armenian music, presented through a variety of compositions that showcase Komitas's unique blend of folk melodies and classical structures.

The album is a comprehensive journey through Komitas's diverse output, featuring seven folk dances, seven songs for piano, twelve pieces for children, and seven pieces for voice and piano, all masterfully arranged for violin and piano. Each piece is a testament to Komitas's deep connection to his cultural roots, with a strong emphasis on minor-modal traditions that define Armenian music.

Performers Mikael Ayrapetyan on piano and Vladimir Sergeev on violin bring these compositions to life with exquisite sensitivity and technical prowess. Their interpretations highlight the intricate melodies and rhythms that are characteristic of Komitas's work, offering a listening experience that is both intellectually stimulating and emotionally resonant.

From the lively and rhythmic "Manushaki of Vagharshapat" to the tender and introspective "The Moon Under the Mountain," the album spans a wide range of moods and styles. The "12 Pieces for Children" add a playful and whimsical dimension to the collection, showcasing Komitas's ability to create music that is both accessible and deeply expressive.

Komitas: Piano & Chamber Music is not just a collection of beautiful music; it is a window into the soul of Armenian culture. Whether you are a seasoned classical music enthusiast or a newcomer to the genre, this album offers a rich and rewarding listening experience that celebrates the enduring legacy of one of Armenia's most beloved composers.
