      About Rohan De Saram

      Rohan de Saram (1939–2024) was a distinguished British and Sri Lankan cellist renowned for his mastery of both classical and contemporary music. Born in Sheffield, England, to Ceylonese parents, de Saram began his cello journey at the age of 11 and later studied under the legendary Pablo Casals. He gained international acclaim as a member of the esteemed Arditti Quartet for nearly three decades, championing contemporary chamber music. Beyond his work with the quartet, de Saram was celebrated for his solo performances and his exploration of traditional Sri Lankan music, reflecting his deep cultural roots. His contributions to the music world left an indelible mark, making him one of the most respected cellists of his time.
