      Album Details

Kevin Puts, an acclaimed American composer, presents a captivating collection of works in his album "To Touch the Sky, If I Were a Swan, Symphony No. 4." Released on September 10, 2013, under the Harmonia Mundi label, this album spans nearly an hour of enchanting compositions that showcase Puts' unique musical language and profound storytelling abilities.

The album opens with the evocative solo cello piece "If I Were a Swan," followed by the nine-movement orchestral work "To Touch the Sky." Each movement of "To Touch the Sky" is a distinct musical journey, drawing inspiration from various poems and texts, and exploring a wide range of emotions and atmospheres. From the serene "Annunciation (Magnificat)" to the introspective "Who has seen the wind?" and the triumphant "Most noble evergreen," this suite demonstrates Puts' mastery of orchestration and his ability to create vivid musical narratives.

The album concludes with Puts' Symphony No. 4, subtitled "From Mission San Juan." This four-movement symphony is inspired by the history and culture of the Mission San Juan Bautista in California. The symphony begins with the "Prelude: Mission San Juan Bautista, ca.1800," setting the historical scene, and continues with "Arriquetpon (the diary of Francisco Arroyo de la Cuesta, 1818)," an interlude, and the soothing "Healing Song." Throughout the symphony, Puts seamlessly blends historical narrative with rich, expressive music.

Kevin Puts' "To Touch the Sky, If I Were a Swan, Symphony No. 4" is a testament to his compositional prowess and his ability to create deeply engaging and imaginative musical worlds. This album is a must-listen for those seeking to explore the contemporary classical music landscape and discover the compelling works of Kevin Puts.
