      Album Details

Immerse yourself in the captivating world of Dmitry Kabalevsky's "Kabalevsky: Cello Concertos - Colas Breugnon Suite," a remarkable album released on January 28, 2014, under the CPO label. This collection showcases the brilliance of Kabalevsky's compositions, featuring two stunning cello concertos and a suite from his opera "Colas Breugnon."

The album opens with the Cello Concerto No. 1 in G Minor, Op. 49, a piece that begins with a march-like Allegro, characterized by pizzicato in the string sections. The concerto's three movements are performed with exquisite skill by cellist Torleif Thedéen, accompanied by the NDR Radiophilharmonie under the direction of Eiji Oue. The second concerto, in C Minor, Op. 77, follows, offering a contrasting yet equally compelling experience with its three distinct movements.

The second half of the album is dedicated to the suite from Kabalevsky's opera "Colas Breugnon." This 20-minute suite includes the overture and three entr'actes, providing a glimpse into the operatic world of Kabalevsky. The NDR Radiophilharmonie, led by Adrian Prabava, brings these pieces to life with a rich and vibrant sound.

With a total duration of 1 hour and 8 minutes, this album is a testament to Kabalevsky's musical genius and the exceptional talent of the performers. Whether you are a seasoned classical music enthusiast or a newcomer to the genre, this album offers a rich and rewarding listening experience.
