      Album Details

Justin Dello Joio's "Blue Mountain" is a captivating chamber opera that transcends the traditional boundaries of classical music. Released on August 1, 2008, under Bridge Records, this one-act opera is a fictionalized account of a meeting between the renowned composers Edvard Grieg and Percy Grainger, set against the backdrop of Grieg's final days. The album, lasting 46 minutes, is performed by The Norwegian Wind Ensemble under the direction of Kenneth Jean, offering a rich and immersive musical experience.

Commissioned to honor the 100th anniversary of Edvard Grieg's death, "Blue Mountain" is a testament to Dello Joio's compositional prowess. The opera is divided into six scenes, each with its own unique character and narrative, seamlessly connected by interludes. The tracks, such as "Scene 1: Silence, O Silence" and "Scene 6: This Is the Place Where My Fears Seem Foolish," weave a compelling story through music, showcasing Dello Joio's ability to convey deep emotions and intricate themes.

The album is a blend of historical fiction and musical brilliance, offering listeners a chance to explore the imagined meeting of two musical giants. Dello Joio's score is both evocative and technically impressive, making "Blue Mountain" a standout piece in the realm of contemporary classical music.
