      Album Details

John Corigliano's "Symphony No. 3 'Circus Maximus' & Gazebo Dances" is a captivating exploration of contemporary wind ensemble music, released in 2009 under the Naxos label. This album showcases Corigliano's mastery of composition, blending intricate structures with evocative melodies that draw listeners into a world of sound.

The centerpiece of the album is the Symphony No. 3 "Circus Maximus," a grand composition divided into eight movements. Each movement offers a unique atmosphere, from the solemn "Introitus" to the lively "Circus Maximus" and the reflective "Prayer," culminating in the powerful "Coda 'Veritas'." This symphony is not just a musical piece but a journey through different emotions and moods, inspired by the grandeur and chaos of the ancient Roman circus.

Complementing the symphony are the "Gazebo Dances," a suite of four movements that range from the energetic "Overture" to the delicate "Waltz," the serene "Adagio," and the spirited "Tarantella." These pieces highlight Corigliano's versatility and his ability to create diverse musical landscapes within a single work.

Performed by the University of Texas Wind Ensemble under the direction of Jerry Junkin, the album is a testament to the skill and precision of both the composer and the ensemble. The music is complex yet accessible, offering something for both casual listeners and those with a deep appreciation for contemporary classical music.

With a total duration of 52 minutes, this album is a rich and rewarding listen, perfect for those seeking to explore the boundaries of wind ensemble music. Whether you're a fan of John Corigliano or new to his work, this album is sure to leave a lasting impression.
