      About Johann Gottlieb Graun

Johann Gottlieb Graun, born in Wahrenbrück in 1702 or 1703, was a virtuoso violinist and prolific composer who bridged the Baroque and Classical eras. As the second of three musically gifted brothers, Graun was reared in a tradition of rigorous counterpoint and formal conservatism. His musical journey began as a chorister in Dresden, where he studied under the renowned Johann Georg Pisendel, a pupil of Antonio Vivaldi. Later, he further honed his skills with Giuseppe Tartini in Padua. Graun's compositions, characterized by their elegance and technical brilliance, have captivated audiences and fellow musicians alike. Despite being overshadowed by his brother Carl Heinrich, Johann Gottlieb Graun's contributions to the musical landscape of his time are significant and continue to resonate with enthusiasts of Baroque and Classical music. His works offer a rich tapestry of melodies and harmonies that transport listeners to the opulent courts and concert halls of 18th-century Europe.
