János Starker, a name synonymous with virtuosity and artistry in the world of classical music, presents a captivating collection of 20th-century cello concertos in his album "János Starker Plays Hindemith, Prokofiev & Rautavaara." Released on May 18, 2018, under the SWR Classic label, this album is a testament to Starker's enduring legacy and his unparalleled mastery of the cello.

The album features nine tracks, spanning a total duration of 1 hour and 14 minutes, showcasing the works of three prominent composers: Paul Hindemith, Sergei Prokofiev, and Einojuhani Rautavaara. Starker's interpretation of these pieces is a blend of technical brilliance and profound musicality, offering a unique perspective on each composer's distinctive style.

The album opens with Hindemith's Cello Concerto, a piece known for its complex rhythms and intricate harmonies. Starker navigates these challenges with ease, delivering a performance that is both precise and expressive. The Prokofiev Sinfonia Concertante in E Minor, Op. 125, follows, showcasing Starker's ability to convey a wide range of emotions through his playing. Throughout the album, Starker is accompanied by the SWR Symphonieorchester, conducted by Herbert Blomstedt. The orchestra's nuanced playing and Starker's exceptional skill create a harmonious blend that brings each piece to life. The album is a must-listen for classical music enthusiasts and anyone seeking to experience the profound beauty of the cello.
