      Italian Inspirations - Alessio Bax

      Album Details

Embark on a captivating journey through the rich tapestry of Italian musical heritage with Alessio Bax's "Italian Inspirations." This exquisite collection, released on Signum Classics in February 2020, showcases Bax's virtuosity and his deep connection to his Italian roots. The album spans a diverse range of styles and periods, from Baroque to Romantic, featuring works by Bach, Rachmaninov, Liszt, and Dallapiccola, all influenced by the romantic allure of Italy.

The album opens with Bach's Concerto in D Minor after Alessandro Marcello, BWV 974, a masterful transcription that showcases Bax's technical prowess and musical sensitivity. The centerpiece of the album is Rachmaninov's Variations on a Theme of Corelli, Op. 42, a tour-de-force of piano writing that Bax navigates with breathtaking skill and emotional depth. The album also includes Dallapiccola's Quaderno musicale di Annalibera, a set of character pieces that offer a glimpse into the composer's unique musical language.

Throughout the album, Bax's playing is characterized by a rare combination of technical brilliance, poetic sensitivity, and intellectual depth. His interpretations are always fresh and insightful, revealing new layers of meaning in even the most familiar works. Whether he is playing the lyrical melodies of Liszt's Années de pèlerinage or the intricate counterpoint of Dallapiccola's Contrapunctus, Bax's playing is always engaging and compelling.

"Italian Inspirations" is a testament to Alessio Bax's artistry and his deep love for the music of his homeland. It is an album that will delight and inspire all who listen, offering a glimpse into the rich musical heritage of Italy and the genius of one of its most remarkable pianists.
