Ireland: Piano Concerto - John Ireland

      Album Details

Immerse yourself in the enchanting world of John Ireland's Piano Concerto, a captivating journey through the composer's evocative and expressive musical landscape. Released on October 4, 2011, under the prestigious Naxos label, this album is a testament to Ireland's mastery of the piano concerto form and his ability to craft deeply moving and engaging compositions.

The album opens with the three-movement Piano Concerto in E-Flat Major, showcasing Ireland's lyrical elegance and technical brilliance. The first movement, "In tempo moderato," sets the stage with its gentle, flowing melodies, while the second movement, "Lento espressivo," delves into more introspective and emotionally resonant territory. The finale, "Allegretto giocoso," brings the concerto to a close with a lively and spirited dance-like quality.

Beyond the concerto, the album offers a rich tapestry of Ireland's shorter piano works. "Legend" and "First Rhapsody in F-Sharp Minor" highlight his ability to weave intricate and evocative narratives through music. Pieces like "Pastoral," "Indian Summer," and "A Sea Idyll" transport the listener to serene and picturesque landscapes, each with its own unique character and charm. The three dances—"Gypsy Dance," "Country Dance," and "Reapers' Dance"—add a playful and rhythmic dimension to the collection, showcasing Ireland's versatility and inventive spirit.

With a total runtime of 1 hour and 16 minutes, this album is a comprehensive exploration of John Ireland's piano repertoire, offering both depth and variety. Whether you're a seasoned classical music enthusiast or a newcomer to Ireland's work, this album promises a rewarding and enriching listening experience.
