      Album Details

Jon Opstad's "Ignis" is a captivating journey through sound, released in 2014 under New Canvas Records. Comprising eight meticulously crafted tracks, this album showcases Opstad's versatility and innovation as a composer and performer. Recorded between November 2013 and February 2014 in his personal studio, "Ignis" is a testament to Opstad's ability to blend traditional and electronic elements seamlessly.

The album features a unique blend of instruments, including piano, prepared piano, kalimba, klangauge, ARP Axxe synthesizer, and various samples and electronics. This eclectic mix allows Opstad to create a rich and textured soundscape that is both intimate and expansive. Each of the eight tracks, titled "Ignis: I" through "Ignis: VIII," offers a distinct sonic experience, yet they all cohere into a cohesive whole.

"Ignis" is not just a collection of songs; it is a contemporary dance score that has garnered significant recognition. The composition "Ignis IV" was notably used as the score for the trailer of the 20th Century Fox film "Ad Astra," starring Brad Pitt and Tommy Lee Jones. Additionally, the album was nominated for a British Composer Award (now known as the Ivors Classical Awards) in the category of "Best Stage Work," highlighting its impact and acclaim in the contemporary dance world.

With a duration of just over 41 minutes, "Ignis" is a concise yet powerful exploration of sound and composition. Whether you're a fan of contemporary dance music, experimental electronics, or simply appreciate innovative sound design, "Ignis" offers a compelling listen. Jon Opstad's mastery of diverse instruments and his ability to weave them into a cohesive narrative make "Ignis" a standout release in his discography.
