      John Etheridge is a versatile English jazz fusion guitarist, composer, bandleader, and educator, renowned for his eclectic style and extensive collaborations across jazz, classical, and contemporary music. Born on January 12, 1948, in Lambeth, London, Etheridge is best known for his work with the legendary band Soft Machine, spanning from 1975 to 1978, 1984, and from 2004 to the present. A self-taught guitarist, Etheridge began playing while at school and later studied at Essex University. His career has seen him perform with a glittering array of stars, including Stéphane Grappelli, Diz Disley, and Pat Metheny, who has described him as "one of the best guitarists." Etheridge's discography is vast, featuring albums with Soft Machine, Blue Spirits, and his own projects, showcasing his brilliance in blues-influenced jazz and beyond.
