      Ed Harkins is a multifaceted artist whose work spans the realms of avant-garde, free jazz, and experimental music. With a rich academic background, having studied composition at prestigious institutions like Yale University, the University of Chicago, and the University of Iowa, Ed honed his craft under the guidance of notable mentors such as Mel Powell and Ralph Shapey. For over four decades, he shared his knowledge and passion as a professor at the University of California, San Diego, teaching a graduate-level seminar on advanced rhythm reading.

      Ed's musical journey is as unique as his compositions. He met his collaborator Philip Larson on a golf course in Illinois, leading them to the Center for Music Experiment, a Rockefeller-supported research initiative. Their partnership and Ed's innovative approach to music have resulted in a discography that includes standout works like "Scuzzy" and "Moa," available on platforms like Apple Music and Discogs.

      Beyond his musical prowess, Ed's career has seen him excel in diverse fields, from working as a Journeyman Boilermaker to serving as a Senior Vice President at Hunter Financial Advisers, Inc.
