Pearl Bailey was a multifaceted American entertainer, renowned for her sultry vocals, mischievous humor, and captivating stage presence. Born in Newport News, Virginia, in 1918, Bailey began her career singing in her father's church choir at the tender age of three. She honed her skills in vaudeville before making her Broadway debut in "St. Louis Woman" in 1946. Bailey's career soared with her iconic role in the all-black production of "Hello, Dolly!" in 1968, for which she received a Special Tony Award. Her talents extended beyond the stage, earning her a Daytime Emmy for her role in the ABC Afterschool Special "Cindy Eller: A Modern Fairy Tale" in 1986. Bailey's musical prowess also hit the charts with her rendition of "Takes Two to Tango" in 1952.
