Jascha Heifetz, one of the most celebrated violinists of the 20th century, presents a captivating collection of encores in "Heifetz: Encores, Vol. 2." Recorded over four days in Hollywood during 1946 and 1947, this album showcases Heifetz's virtuosity and musical prowess alongside his regular accompanist, Emanuel Bay. The album spans a diverse range of classical compositions, expertly arranged for violin and piano, highlighting Heifetz's ability to breathe new life into familiar pieces.

The tracklist is a testament to Heifetz's eclectic taste and technical brilliance, featuring works by composers such as Mozart, Debussy, Mendelssohn, Rimsky-Korsakov, and many others. From the delicate and lyrical "La fille aux cheveux de lin" by Debussy to the energetic and playful "Flight of the Bumble-bee" by Rimsky-Korsakov, each piece is performed with precision, passion, and a deep understanding of the music.

This album is not just a display of Heifetz's exceptional skill but also a journey through various musical styles and periods. The collaboration with Emanuel Bay adds a layer of depth and richness to the performances, making this album a true gem for classical music enthusiasts.

With a duration of one hour and four minutes, "Heifetz: Encores, Vol. 2" is a compact yet comprehensive showcase of Heifetz's artistry. Released by Naxos in 2012, this album is a must-listen for anyone interested in classical music and the legacy of one of its greatest performers.

      About Jascha Heifetz

Jascha Heifetz, a name synonymous with violin virtuosity, was a Russian-born American violinist who captivated audiences worldwide with his unparalleled technique and artistic sensitivity. Born in Vilnius, Heifetz was a child prodigy, honing his skills in the Russian classical violin style in St. Petersburg before moving to the United States as a teenager. His Carnegie Hall debut in 1917 was a sensation, leaving fellow violinist Fritz Kreisler in awe, stating that others might as well retire their instruments. Heifetz's career spanned over six decades, during which he performed extensively, recorded prolifically, and even served with the USO during wartime. His influence on generations of musicians is immeasurable, and his legacy continues to inspire. Heifetz's mastery extended beyond performance; he was also a respected teacher and a man of diverse interests, from electric car innovation to sailing. His 1731 Stradivari violin, known as the "Heifetz, Piel," is a testament to his extraordinary career. Heifetz passed away in 1987, leaving behind a rich musical heritage that includes numerous recordings and transcriptions, and a legacy that endures in the hearts of classical music enthusiasts worldwide.
