      Album Details

Experience the sublime beauty of sacred choral music with "Hear My Prayer, Allegri's Miserere and other Choral Favourites from St Paul's Cathedral," a captivating collection curated by Jeremy Budd and the renowned St. Paul's Cathedral Choir. Recorded in the resplendent acoustics of St. Paul's Cathedral in London, this album is a testament to the choir's virtuosity and the rich history of choral tradition.

Released in 1991 under the Hyperion label, this album spans a little over an hour and features ten exquisite tracks that showcase the depth and diversity of choral repertoire. The album opens with Mendelssohn's "Hear My Prayer," a poignant and introspective piece that sets the tone for the spiritual journey that follows. The choir's performance of Allegri's "Miserere," a work of breathtaking complexity and beauty, is a standout moment that highlights the choir's technical prowess and emotional depth.

The album also includes works by Brahms, Charpentier, and traditional hymns, each rendered with precision and passion. The "Evening Service in G Major" by John Scott, with its soaring "Magnificat" and serene "Nunc dimittis," is a highlight, showcasing the choir's ability to convey both grandeur and intimacy. The album concludes with the triumphant "Festival Te Deum," a celebratory anthem that leaves a lasting impression.

Under the direction of Jeremy Budd and with the expertise of producer Mark Brown and engineer Antony Howell, this recording captures the essence of sacred choral music in a way that is both authentic and inspiring. Whether you are a seasoned enthusiast of choral music or a newcomer to the genre, this album offers a rich and rewarding listening experience.
