      Album Details

Immerse yourself in the timeless elegance of classical music with Emanuel Feuermann's "Haydn / Dvorak: Cello Concertos." This captivating album, released on January 18, 2000, under the Naxos label, showcases Feuermann's mastery of the cello through two iconic concertos: Joseph Haydn's Cello Concerto No. 2 in D Major and Antonín Dvořák's Cello Concerto in B Minor, Op. 104. The album spans a total of 1 hour and 10 minutes, offering a rich and immersive listening experience.

Emanuel Feuermann, a celebrated cellist of the early 20th century, brings a unique blend of technical brilliance and emotional depth to these performances. The Haydn concerto, with its lively Allegro moderato and graceful Adagio, is a testament to Feuermann's ability to convey both the playful and introspective aspects of the music. The Dvořák concerto, on the other hand, is a profound exploration of the human spirit, featuring a haunting Adagio ma non troppo and a dynamic Allegro moderato - Andante - Allegro vivo.

Accompanied by the Berlin State Opera Orchestra under the direction of Sir Malcolm Sargent, Feuermann's performances are nothing short of extraordinary. The album's historical significance is further highlighted by the recordings dating back to the late 1920s and early 1930s, offering a glimpse into the golden age of classical music.

Whether you are a seasoned classical music enthusiast or a newcomer to the genre, "Haydn / Dvorak: Cello Concertos" is a must-listen. It's a perfect blend of virtuosity and artistry that continues to inspire and captivate audiences to this day.

      About Emanuel Feuermann

Emanuel Feuermann, born in 1902 in Kolomea, now part of Ukraine, was a virtuoso cellist whose brief yet impactful career left an indelible mark on the world of chamber music. Born into a musical family, Feuermann began his musical journey under the guidance of his father, who played both the cello and violin. By his early teens, Feuermann had already gained recognition for his extraordinary talent, performing publicly and even composing his own works. His technical prowess and innovative approach to the cello revolutionized the instrument's playing style, earning him comparisons to the legendary violinist Henryk Wieniawski. Despite his tragically short life, ending at the age of 39, Feuermann's recordings and legacy continue to inspire and captivate audiences, showcasing his unparalleled skill and artistic vision.
