      Album Details

Dive into the avant-garde world of Jonathan Harvey with his captivating album "Harvey: Tombeau de Messiaen," released in 2008. This collection is a testament to Harvey's innovative spirit and his deep respect for the musical legacy of Olivier Messiaen. The album features a mix of solo piano works and electronic compositions, showcasing Harvey's unique ability to blend traditional and modern elements.

The centerpiece of the album is "Tombeau de Messiaen," a homage to the French composer that Harvey crafted in 1994. This piece, performed by the virtuoso pianist Philip Mead, is a mesmerizing blend of piano and tape, where the piano's sound is continuously transformed by the harmonic interactions and distortions of its electronic counterpart. The album also includes other notable works such as "Mortuos Plango, Vivos Voco," "4 Images After Yeats," and "Ritual Melodies," each offering a distinct sonic experience.

"Harvey: Tombeau de Messiaen" is not just a celebration of Harvey's 60th birthday but also a tribute to his enduring influence in the world of contemporary classical music. The album's seven tracks, spanning 52 minutes, provide a comprehensive look into Harvey's compositional style, characterized by its spiritual depth and spectral thinking. Whether you're a seasoned fan of avant-garde music or a curious newcomer, this album offers a rich and rewarding listening experience.
