      About Adam Makowicz

      Adam Makowicz, born Adam Matyszkowicz in 1940, is a renowned Polish-Canadian pianist and composer who has made a significant impact on both the jazz and classical music scenes. Born in Gnojník, Poland, Makowicz began his jazz journey in the late 1950s, co-founding one of Europe's first free jazz groups, the Jazz Darings, with Tomasz Stanko. His virtuosity and mastery of improvisation have earned him the title of "Number One Jazz Pianist" from the European "Jazz Forum" magazine on multiple occasions. Makowicz's repertoire spans a wide range of styles, from jazz improvisations to classical pieces, including his own compositions and interpretations of Chopin's works. His latest album, "Welcome Back, Adam," released in 2023, showcases his enduring talent and innovative spirit.
