      Album Details

Immerse yourself in the rich, resonant world of classical chamber music with William Primrose's 1999 album, "Handel, W.F. Bach, Harris & Others: Works." This captivating collection showcases Primrose's virtuosity on the viola, featuring a diverse array of compositions that span from the elegant Baroque era to the vibrant rhythms of Jamaican folk music.

The album opens with a trio of movements from a Viola Concerto in the Style of Handel, demonstrating Primrose's mastery of the Baroque style. Following this, you'll find a beautifully arranged Viola Sonata in C Minor by W.F. Bach, adapted for viola and harpsichord by Y. Pessl. The sonata's three movements—Adagio e mesto, Allegro non troppo, and Allegro scherzando—offer a journey through a range of emotions and musical textures.

Primrose's own compositions also take center stage, with the evocative "Soliloquy & Dance" and the dynamic "Viola Sonata (Version for Viola & Piano)." These pieces highlight Primrose's skill as both a performer and a composer, blending technical brilliance with expressive depth.

The album also includes a delightful selection of lighter fare, such as the "2 Jamaican Pieces" and "2 Jamaican Street Songs," arranged for viola and piano. These lively, rhythmic pieces provide a refreshing contrast to the more formal compositions, showcasing the viola's versatility and Primrose's ability to infuse each piece with charm and vitality.

With a total runtime of just over an hour, this album is a testament to William Primrose's enduring legacy as one of the greatest violists of the 20th century. Whether you're a seasoned classical music enthusiast or a newcomer to the genre, this collection offers a rewarding and engaging listening experience.
