      Album Details

Ferenc Snétberger, a Hungarian guitarist and composer, presents a deeply personal and evocative collection of works on his album "Hallgató," released on February 12, 2021, under the ECM New Series label. Spanning a duration of 1 hour and 2 minutes, this album is a testament to Snétberger's unique ability to blend classical, jazz, and folk influences into a cohesive and captivating musical experience.

The album opens with a live performance of Snétberger's Concerto for Guitar and Orchestra "In Memory of My People," reduced for string quintet, recorded at the prestigious Liszt Academy in Budapest in 2018. This powerful piece is a tribute to the composer's Hungarian heritage and the struggles of his people. The concerto is followed by a live performance of his String Quartet No. 8 in C Minor, Op. 110, also recorded at the Liszt Academy. This quartet showcases Snétberger's ability to create intricate and expressive compositions that resonate with listeners.

In addition to these larger works, the album features several shorter pieces, including arrangements of traditional and classical works such as "I Saw My Lady Weep" and "Flow, my tears." His playing is characterized by a deep sense of lyricism and a keen ear for detail, making each note count. The string quintet and quartet arrangements provide a rich and textured backdrop for Snétberger's guitar, creating a lush and immersive soundscape.

"Hallgató" is a powerful and moving collection of works that showcases Ferenc Snétberger's unique voice as a composer and guitarist. Whether you're a fan of classical music, jazz, or folk, this album is sure to captivate and inspire.
