      About Guiomar Novaes

Guiomar Novaes, born in São João da Boa Vista, Brazil, in 1895, was a pioneering Brazilian pianist renowned for her distinctive tone, expressive phrasing, and nuanced interpretations. As the seventeenth of nineteen children, Novaes began playing the piano at the tender age of four and started formal lessons with Luigi Chiafarelli just three years later. Her career spanned decades, with a significant discography, particularly her recordings for the Vox label in the 1950s. Novaes' artistry was marked by a singing line and a subtle approach to her performances, making her one of the most celebrated pianists from South America. Married to the composer Octavio Pinto, Novaes' legacy continues to inspire classical piano enthusiasts worldwide.
