      Album Details

Immerse yourself in the captivating world of classical piano with Stephen Kovacevich's "Grieg & Schumann Piano Concertos." This remarkable album, released on January 1, 1971, under Decca Music Group Ltd., showcases the extraordinary talent of Kovacevich as he masterfully interprets the piano concertos of Edvard Grieg and Robert Schumann.

The album features two complete piano concertos: Grieg's Piano Concerto in A Minor, Op. 16, and Schumann's Piano Concerto in A Minor, Op. 54. Each concerto is divided into three distinct movements, offering a rich and varied listening experience that spans a full hour. Kovacevich's virtuosity and deep musical insight shine through in every note, making this a standout performance in the classical piano repertoire.

Grieg's Piano Concerto in A Minor, Op. 16, is a beloved work known for its lyrical melodies and dramatic intensity. Kovacevich's interpretation brings out the depth and nuance of this concerto, from the sweeping Allegro molto moderato of the first movement to the tender Adagio and the energetic Allegro moderato molto e marcato of the final movement.

Schumann's Piano Concerto in A Minor, Op. 54, is a work of profound beauty and emotional depth. Kovacevich's performance captures the essence of Schumann's musical language, with the Allegro affettuoso of the first movement, the graceful Intermezzo. Andantino grazioso of the second, and the lively Allegro vivace of the third movement.
