This exquisite collection showcases Starker's unparalleled mastery of the cello, featuring a diverse range of compositions that highlight his technical prowess and artistic sensitivity.

The album opens with Dmitri Shostakovich's intense and dramatic Cello Concerto No. 1, op. 107, followed by the serene and introspective Suite for Solo Cello in D minor, BWV 1008 by Johann Sebastian Bach. Starker's interpretation of Joseph Haydn's Cello Concerto No. 1 in C major, Hob. VIIb: 1, is a testament to his ability to bring out the elegance and grace of the Baroque era.
