      Album Details

Immerse yourself in the rich, vibrant world of Spanish classical music with Alicia de Larrocha's stunning rendition of Enrique Granados' "Granados: Goyescas; Danzas españolas: Classic Library Series." Released in 2004 under the RCA Red Seal label, this album is a testament to the timeless beauty of Granados' compositions, expertly brought to life by one of the most celebrated pianists of our time.

The album opens with the enchanting "Goyescas," a suite of piano pieces inspired by the paintings of Francisco Goya. Each piece, from the tender "Los Requiebros" to the dramatic "El Amor y la Muerte: Balada," paints a vivid picture of 18th-century Spanish life, capturing the essence of love, longing, and tragedy. De Larrocha's masterful interpretation brings out the nuanced emotions and intricate details of Granados' music, making this a standout performance.

The second half of the album features a selection from Granados' "Danzas españolas," a collection of short piano pieces that showcase the diverse regional dances of Spain. From the lively "Allegro (Minuetto)" to the haunting "Assai moderato (Asturiana)," these dances are a delightful journey through the musical landscapes of Spain. De Larrocha's technical brilliance and deep understanding of the music shine through in every note, making this a truly unforgettable listening experience.

With a total duration of 1 hour and 18 minutes, this album is a perfect blend of passion, elegance, and technical virtuosity. Whether you're a seasoned classical music enthusiast or a newcomer looking to explore the rich tapestry of Spanish music, Alicia de Larrocha's rendition of Granados' masterpieces is sure to captivate and inspire.

      About Enrique Granados

Enrique Granados, born Pantaleón Enrique Joaquín Granados Campiña, was a renowned Spanish composer and concert pianist from Catalonia, Spain. Known for his uniquely Spanish musical style, Granados was a pioneer in the movement towards nationalism in late 19th-century Spanish music. His most celebrated works include the evocative piano suite "Goyescas," the vibrant "Spanish Dances," and the opera "María del Carmen." Beyond his musical talents, Granados was also an accomplished painter, adding another dimension to his artistic legacy. Born in the Catalonian city of Lleida in 1867, his life was tragically cut short when he was torpedoed by a German U-boat in the English Channel in 1916. Granados' compositions continue to captivate audiences with their rich, emotive qualities and deep cultural roots.
