      Album Details

Dive into the captivating world of Osvaldo Golijov's "Ainadamar," a profound and evocative opera that transcends traditional boundaries of classical music. Released in 2006 under Deutsche Grammophon, this album is a testament to Golijov's unique ability to blend diverse musical genres, from folk to electronic, into a cohesive and deeply personal style.

"Ainadamar" is an "opera in three images," featuring a libretto by David Henry Hwang and translated by Golijov himself. The opera delves into the life and tragic death of Spanish poet and playwright Federico García Lorca, who was murdered by fascist thugs in 1936. The story is narrated through the eyes of Lorca's friend, Margarita Xirgu, adding layers of depth and intimacy to the narrative.

The album spans 58 minutes and includes 20 tracks, each offering a rich tapestry of musical commentary and examples from Golijov himself. Highlights include "Preludio de Agua y Caballo," "Balada - Mariana," and "La Fuente de las Lágrimas," each providing a glimpse into the opera's intricate composition and storytelling. The bonus track, "Desde mi ventana - keepalive rework," features a remix by Jeremy Flower, adding a modern twist to the classical score.

Performed by the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Robert Spano, with vocal performances by Dawn Upshaw, Kelley O'Connor, Jessica Rivera, and Jesús Montoya, "Ainadamar" is a masterclass in orchestration and vocal prowess. The album is a celebration of Golijov's innovative approach to opera, making it a standout work in his discography.

Experience the rich, layered storytelling and musical brilliance of "Ainadamar," a work that stands as a testament to Osvaldo Golijov's artistic vision and his ability to push the boundaries of classical music.
