      Album Details

Immerse yourself in the rich, late Romantic sounds of Reinhold Glière with this captivating album, featuring two of his most notable works. The Violin Concerto in G minor, Op. 100, showcases Glière's ability to blend nostalgic melodies with modern harmonies, creating a piece that is both intimate and grand. The Philharmonia Orchestra, conducted by Yondani Butt, accompanies the exceptional Yuko Nishino on violin, bringing out the full depth and passion of Glière's composition.

The second half of the album is dedicated to Glière's Symphony No. 2 in C minor, Op. 25, a sprawling, four-movement work that demonstrates the composer's mastery of orchestration and his ability to evoke a wide range of emotions. From the heavy, dramatic opening of the first movement to the playful, dance-like second movement, and the introspective, varied third movement, to the lively, energetic finale, this symphony is a journey through the full spectrum of human experience.

Recorded in 2002 and released by Decca, this album is a testament to Glière's enduring appeal and the timeless beauty of his music. Whether you're a seasoned classical music enthusiast or a newcomer to the genre, this album offers a rewarding and engaging listening experience. So, sit back, relax, and let the music of Reinhold Glière transport you to another time and place.

      About Reinhold Glière

Reinhold Glière (1875-1956) was a prominent Soviet composer of German and Polish descent, renowned for his rich, melodic compositions that beautifully incorporated elements of Eastern folk music. A key figure in the development of Russian ballet, Glière's work is often compared to that of Tchaikovsky. He continued the Russian Romantic tradition, exploring exotic themes and leaving an indelible mark on the early musical landscape of the Soviet Union. Glière's contributions were widely recognized, earning him the title of People's Artist of the USSR and three Stalin Prizes. His music, spanning from the 1900s to the 1950s, remains a testament to his enduring legacy as a composer, conductor, and teacher.
