      Album Details

Dive into the rich orchestral works of Reinhold Glière, a prominent yet underappreciated composer from the former Soviet Union. This album, released in 1995 under the Marco Polo label, showcases Glière's mastery in crafting compelling and dynamic pieces. The collection features four tracks, each offering a unique blend of drama and elegance, with a total runtime of just under an hour.

Kick off your journey with the stirring "Overture to the Opera Shakh-Senem," a piece that sets the stage with its intricate compositions and powerful orchestration. Follow this with the "Overture to the Musical Drama Gyul'sara," another captivating work that highlights Glière's ability to weave complex emotions into his music.

The album also includes "The Bronze Horseman," a suite that takes you through a range of moods and tempos, from the tender "Yevgeny - Parasha - Lyric Scene" to the lively "Dance Scene." Wrap up your listening experience with the "Heroic March for the Buryat-Mongolian ASSR," a piece that exudes a sense of grandeur and patriotism.

Conducted by André Anichanov and performed by the St. Petersburg State Symphony Orchestra, this album is a testament to Glière's enduring legacy and the timeless appeal of his orchestral works. Whether you're a seasoned classical music enthusiast or a curious newcomer, this collection offers a rewarding exploration of Glière's artistic vision.

      About Reinhold Glière

Reinhold Glière (1875-1956) was a prominent Soviet composer of German and Polish descent, renowned for his rich, melodic compositions that beautifully incorporated elements of Eastern folk music. A key figure in the development of Russian ballet, Glière's work is often compared to that of Tchaikovsky. He continued the Russian Romantic tradition, exploring exotic themes and leaving an indelible mark on the early musical landscape of the Soviet Union. Glière's contributions were widely recognized, earning him the title of People's Artist of the USSR and three Stalin Prizes. His music, spanning from the 1900s to the 1950s, remains a testament to his enduring legacy as a composer, conductor, and teacher.
