      Album Details

Immerse yourself in the rich, orchestral world of Roberto Gerhard's "Don Quixote, Pedrelliana, Albada & Interludi I Dansa," a captivating classical music album released in 1992. This collection showcases the brilliance of Gerhard, a prominent figure in modern classical music, whose compositions are known for their depth and innovation. The album features the Orquesta Sinfónica de Tenerife, conducted by Víctor Pablo Pérez, delivering a powerful and nuanced performance that brings Gerhard's works to life.

The album is a journey through various pieces, starting with the five-scene "Don Quixote," a composition that captures the essence of Cervantes' iconic character through orchestral music. Following this, "Pedrelliana" offers a tribute to the Catalan composer Pedro Pedrell, blending traditional and modern elements. "Albada" and "Interludi i Dansa" provide a contrast with their lively rhythms and dance-like structures, showcasing Gerhard's versatility and creativity.

With a duration of just over an hour, this album is a testament to Gerhard's ability to create complex, engaging, and emotionally resonant music. The combination of Gerhard's compositions and the superb performance by the Orquesta Sinfónica de Tenerife makes this album a standout in the world of classical music. Whether you're a longtime fan of Gerhard or a newcomer to his work, this album offers a rich and rewarding listening experience.

      About Roberto Gerhard

Roberto Gerhard, born in 1896 in Valls, Spain, was a composer whose musical journey spanned two nations and a wealth of influences. With Germanic parents, Gerhard's early musical training in his native Catalonia was marked by studies with the renowned pianist Enrique Granados and the esteemed composer Felipe Pedrell, who ignited his passion for Catalan folk music. His compositional style was further shaped by his studies with Arnold Schoenberg, reflecting a blend of Catalan tradition and modernist innovation. Gerhard's exile from Spain led him to a prolific career in Britain, where he composed for theater, radio, and film, leaving behind a rich musical legacy that continues to captivate audiences today. His works, such as the Violin Concerto, showcase his unique voice and enduring appeal. Gerhard passed away in Cambridge in 1970, leaving behind a body of work that stands as a testament to his artistic vision and cultural heritage.
