      Album Details

Gautier Capuçon, the renowned French cellist, presents a captivating album that showcases his virtuosity and versatility. "Gautier Capuçon plays Schubert, Schumann, Debussy & Britten" is a collection of chamber music masterpieces, released on November 4, 2013, under Warner Classics International. This album is a testament to Capuçon's exceptional skill and his ability to bring out the nuances of each composition.

The album begins with Franz Schubert's Arpeggione Sonata in A Minor, D. 821, a work originally written for an arpeggione, a now-obsolete instrument. Capuçon's interpretation is both sensitive and powerful, highlighting the piece's lyrical and technical demands. Following Schubert, the album features Robert Schumann's 5 Stücke im Volkston, Op. 102, a set of character pieces that showcase Capuçon's expressive range.

The second half of the album is dedicated to the cello sonatas of Claude Debussy and Benjamin Britten. Debussy's Cello Sonata in D Minor, CD 144, L. 135, is a work of impressionistic beauty, while Britten's Cello Sonata in C Major, Op. 65, is a tour de force of technical and emotional depth. Capuçon's performances are masterful, capturing the essence of each composer's unique style.

Throughout the album, Capuçon is accompanied by the talented pianist Frank Braley, whose playing complements Capuçon's beautifully. The chemistry between the two musicians is evident, making this album a delight for any classical music enthusiast. With a total duration of 1 hour and 14 minutes, this album is a rich and rewarding listening experience.
