      Album Details

Immerse yourself in the captivating world of Hans Gál, a prolific Austrian-British composer whose works seamlessly blend classical elegance with expressive depth. Released in 2012 by Gramola Records, "Gál: Violinkonzert - Violinsonaten" is a testament to Gál's mastery of the violin concerto and sonata forms. This album features the Israel Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Roberto Paternostro, with the virtuosic Thomas Albertus Irnberger and Evgueny Sinaiski on violin.

The album opens with Gál's Violin Concerto, Op. 39, a three-movement work that showcases the composer's ability to craft intricate, melodically rich compositions. The first movement, "Fantasia," sets a dramatic tone, while the second, "Arioso," offers a lyrical respite. The concerto concludes with a lively "Rondo" that highlights the technical prowess of the soloist.

The second half of the album is dedicated to Gál's violin sonatas. The Violin Sonata in B-Flat Minor, Op. 17, is a deeply expressive work, with its opening "Patetico" movement setting a somber mood that evolves into a more animated and intricate dialogue between the violin and piano. The Violin Sonata in D Major, with its playful "Scherzo" and expansive "Largo con espressione," demonstrates Gál's versatility and his ability to convey a wide range of emotions through his music.

Recorded in the acoustically renowned Großer Saal of the Salzburg Mozarteum in November 2012, this album captures the essence of Gál's compositions with clarity and precision. Whether you're a seasoned classical music enthusiast or a newcomer to Gál's work, this album offers a rich and rewarding listening experience.

      About Hans Gál

Hans Gál, an Austrian composer, pedagogue, and musicologist, left an indelible mark on the world of classical music. Born in 1890 in Brunn am Gebirge, near Vienna, Gál's career spanned decades, during which he composed prolifically and taught at prestigious institutions like the Conservatory in Mainz. His music, innovative and deeply rooted in Viennese tradition, earned him significant acclaim in the 1920s. However, his career was interrupted by the rise of the Nazis, who banned his music in the 1930s. Undeterred, Gál emigrated to the United Kingdom in 1938, where he continued to compose, teach, and write influential musicological studies. With over 2.3K monthly listeners on Spotify, Gál's work continues to resonate with audiences today, offering a rich tapestry of melodies that reflect his unique perspective as both a composer and a scholar.
