      Album Details

Immerse yourself in the enchanting world of Robert Fuchs, a composer whose works have often been overshadowed by his contemporaries but deserve a spotlight of their own. This album, released in 2004 by CPO, showcases two of Fuchs' most captivating compositions: the Piano Concerto in B-Flat Minor, Op. 27, and the Serenade No. 5 in D Major, Op. 53.

The Piano Concerto in B-Flat Minor, Op. 27, is a tour de force that highlights Fuchs' mastery of the concerto form. Composed between 1879 and 1880, it is a work of great depth and complexity, featuring a powerful first movement, a lyrical second movement, and a spirited finale. The Serenade No. 5 in D Major, Op. 53, composed in 1895, is a charming and elegant work that pays homage to Johann Strauss. It is a delightful blend of wit and grace, with each of its four movements offering a unique blend of melodies and rhythms.

The performances on this album are nothing short of outstanding. Franz Vorraber's piano playing is virtuosic and expressive, perfectly capturing the nuances of Fuchs' compositions. The Luxembourg Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Alun Francis, provides a rich and nuanced accompaniment, bringing out the full depth and beauty of the music.

With a total duration of 62 minutes, this album offers a comprehensive overview of Fuchs' musical genius. Whether you are a seasoned classical music enthusiast or a newcomer to the genre, this album is sure to captivate and inspire. Don't miss the opportunity to discover the timeless beauty of Robert Fuchs' music.

      About Robert Fuchs

Robert Fuchs, an Austrian composer and music teacher, left an indelible mark on the classical music scene, though his name may not be as widely recognised today. Born in 1847, Fuchs' prolific career spanned a vast array of genres, with a particular focus on chamber music. His compositions include two operas, five symphonies, and five serenades, the latter earning him the nickname 'Serenaden-Fuchs'. Fuchs' extensive catalogue also features a wealth of chamber works, such as piano quartets, trios, and his renowned Clarinet Quintet in E flat major.

Fuchs' influence extended beyond his own compositions; he was a revered teacher whose pupils included notable figures such as Hugo Wolf, Gustav Mahler, and Jean Sibelius. Despite his significant contributions, Fuchs remains somewhat of an enigma in musical history, with his works often overshadowed by his more famous contemporaries. However, his compositions continue to captivate audiences with their sensitivity and mastery, offering a journey through the rich tapestry of late Romantic music.
