      Album Details

"From Darkness To Light" is a captivating album that brings together the talents of Russian pianist and conductor Vladimir Ashkenazy and Australian cellist Catherine Hewgill. Recorded over two days in October 2016, this collaborative effort presents a compelling all-Russian program that showcases the depth and range of both artists.

The album features the Cello Sonatas of Sergei Prokofiev (Op. 119) and Dmitri Shostakovich (Op. 40), two monumental works that explore themes of darkness and hope. Catherine Hewgill, the Principal Cellist of the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, and Vladimir Ashkenazy deliver committed and moving performances, bringing out the intricate nuances and powerful expressions of these sonatas. The recording also includes an enchanting arrangement of Sergei Rachmaninoff's "Vocalise," arranged by American cellist Leonard Rose, adding a touch of lyrical beauty to the program.

With a duration of 54 minutes, "From Darkness To Light" offers a rich and immersive listening experience. The album was released on November 3, 2017, under Universal Music Australia Pty. Ltd. and is a testament to the artistic synergy between Hewgill and Ashkenazy. Whether you're a classical music enthusiast or a casual listener, this album is sure to captivate you with its profound performances and exquisite musicality.
