      Album Details

Simon Preston's "Franck: Symphony in D Minor – Poulenc: Organ Concerto in G Minor" is a captivating live recording from Symphony Hall, Boston, captured in 1991 and released in 1993 under the prestigious Deutsche Grammophon label. This classical album is a testament to Preston's virtuosity and the exceptional collaboration with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Seiji Ozawa, and timpanist Everett Firth.

The album features two monumental works: César Franck's Symphony in D Minor, a deeply expressive and romantic piece, and Francis Poulenc's Organ Concerto in G Minor, a work that showcases the organ's versatility and the composer's unique voice. Preston's masterful performance of the Franck symphony is divided into three movements, each revealing the depth and richness of the composition. The Poulenc concerto, also in three movements, highlights the interplay between the organ and the orchestra, creating a dynamic and engaging listening experience.

With a total duration of just under an hour, this album offers a comprehensive exploration of these two significant works in the classical repertoire. Simon Preston's artistry shines through in every note, making this a standout recording for both casual listeners and classical music enthusiasts. The live setting adds an extra layer of excitement and spontaneity, capturing the energy and precision of the performance. Whether you're a fan of symphonic music or organ concertos, this album is a must-listen, showcasing the brilliance of Simon Preston and the Boston Symphony Orchestra.
