      Album Details

Immerse yourself in the enchanting world of Jean Françaix's "Françaix: Symphony, Scuola di Ballo & Other Orchestral Music," a captivating collection of neoclassical and chamber music that showcases the composer's ingenious craftsmanship and melodious charm. Released in 2002 under the Hyperion label, this album is a testament to Françaix's ability to blend classical elegance with a playful, inventive spirit.

The album opens with the Symphony in G Major, a four-movement masterpiece that exudes a sense of unforced motion and grace. Françaix's skillful orchestration and melodic inventiveness are on full display, making this symphony a standout piece. Following the symphony, the Sérénade offers a delightful contrast with its lively and engaging rhythms, performed exquisitely by the Ulster Orchestra under the direction of Thierry Fischer.

A highlight of the album is the Scuola di Ballo, a ballet in one act inspired by the music of Boccherini. This ten-movement suite is a journey through a variety of dance styles and moods, from the playful "Leçon de Félicita" to the dramatic "Entrée de Lucrèce." The ballet's intricate compositions and vivid characterizations make it a captivating listen.

Also included are the whimsical "Ouverture anacréontique" and the elegant "Pavane pour un Génie vivant," both showcasing Françaix's ability to create memorable melodies and engaging musical narratives. With a total runtime of 1 hour and 10 minutes, this album is a comprehensive exploration of Françaix's orchestral works, offering a rich and rewarding listening experience. Whether you're a longtime fan of classical music or a newcomer to the genre, this album is sure to delight and inspire.
