      Album Details

Immerse yourself in the captivating world of Jean-Louis Florentz's "De cire et or - L'oeuvre pour orgue," a remarkable collection of his complete organ works. Released on October 22, 2014, this album showcases the profound and imaginative compositions of Florentz, performed exquisitely by Thomas Monnet. Spanning a duration of 86 minutes, the album is a testament to Florentz's unique ability to blend contemporary classical music with deeply spiritual and evocative themes.

The album opens with "Les laudes, Op. 5 'Kidân za-nageh'," a seven-movement suite that beautifully captures the essence of sacred hymns and prayers. Each piece within this suite, from "Dis-moi ton nom..." to "...Seigneur des Lumières," is a masterclass in emotional depth and musical storytelling. Following this, the album presents "L'enfant noir, conte symphonique pour orgue en 14 tableaux, Op. 17," a symphonic tale that unfolds through 14 vivid tableaux, each one a miniature masterpiece of sound and imagination.

The album also includes two stand-alone works: "Debout sur le soleil, chant de résurrection pour grand orgue, Op. 8," a powerful and uplifting piece that celebrates the triumph of light over darkness, and "La croix du sud, poème symphonique pour grand orgue, Op. 15," a poetic and introspective exploration of the Southern Cross constellation.

Recorded with meticulous attention to detail and performed with passion and precision, "De cire et or - L'oeuvre pour orgue" is a must-listen for anyone interested in contemporary classical music. Whether you are a long-time fan of Florentz's work or a newcomer to his compositions, this album is sure to leave a lasting impression.

      About Jean-Louis Florentz

Jean-Louis Florentz, born in Asnières-sur-Seine, France, in 1947, was a French composer whose musical journey was as diverse as it was captivating. Initially drawn to ethnomusicology and Arabic literature, Florentz brought a unique perspective to his compositions, blending his academic interests with his musical prowess. His work is notably associated with spectralism, a compositional technique that explores the harmonic content of sounds and their evolution over time. Florentz's compositions, though not extensive, are deeply evocative and reflect his broad intellectual curiosity. His legacy continues to inspire, with events like the Jean-Louis Florentz International Organ Competition celebrating his contributions to the world of classical music. Florentz passed away in Paris in 2004, leaving behind a body of work that continues to resonate with audiences and musicians alike.
