      Album Details

Immerse yourself in the enchanting world of classical piano with Benjamin Frith's captivating rendition of John Field's Piano Concertos Nos. 5 and 6. Released on Naxos in 2002, this album is a testament to Frith's virtuosity and the timeless beauty of Field's compositions.

The album features two complete piano concertos, showcasing the elegance and technical brilliance of Field's work. The Piano Concerto No. 5 in C Major, H. 39, "L'incendie Par L'orage," opens with an Allegro Moderato that sets the stage for a journey through a variety of emotional landscapes. The Adagio offers a moment of serene reflection, while the Rondo Allegro concludes the concerto with a lively and spirited finale.

The Piano Concerto No. 6 in C Major, H. 49 X, continues the exploration of Field's musical genius. The Allegro Moderato begins with a sense of grandeur, followed by a Larghetto that is both tender and introspective. The Rondo Moderato brings the concerto to a close with a delightful blend of energy and sophistication.

Benjamin Frith, accompanied by the Northern Sinfonia under the direction of David Haslam, brings these works to life with a sensitivity and precision that highlights the intricate details of Field's compositions. The collaboration between Frith, the orchestra, and the conductor results in a performance that is both technically impressive and emotionally resonant.

With a total duration of 57 minutes, this album is a perfect introduction to the piano concertos of John Field, offering a rich and rewarding listening experience. Whether you are a seasoned classical music enthusiast or a newcomer to the genre, Benjamin Frith's interpretation of these concertos is sure to captivate and inspire.

      About Benjamin Frith

Benjamin Frith is a distinguished British classical pianist, born in South Yorkshire, England, on 11 October 1957. His musical journey began at the tender age of ten under the tutelage of the renowned Fanny Waterman. By fourteen, he had already made a significant mark by winning the National Concerto Competition in Dudley. Frith's repertoire is impressively diverse, spanning from the timeless works of Bach and Scarlatti to the modern compositions of Tippett. Beyond his solo performances, he is also a cherished member of the Gould Piano Trio and the founder of the Frith Piano Quartet. His collaborations extend to notable ensembles like the Endellion and Dante string quartets, and he frequently performs piano duos with Peter Hill. Frith's deep connection with the Steinway piano, which began in his childhood, adds a personal touch to his performances. His recordings, including a notable survey of John Field's piano concertos, have left a lasting impression on classical music enthusiasts.
