      About Hannes Kästner

      Hannes Kästner, born in Oetzsch, Germany, in 1929, was a distinguished German organist and harpsichordist whose musical journey began at the prestigious St. Thomas School in Leipzig. As a member of the renowned Thomanerchor from 1940 to 1948, Kästner's early years were steeped in the rich musical traditions of Leipzig. He further honed his skills under the tutelage of Günther Ramin at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Leipzig, graduating in 1952. Kästner's performances, particularly his interpretations of Johann Sebastian Bach's works, are celebrated for their depth and technical mastery. His recordings, including notable pieces like the "Toccata and Fugue in D Minor," showcase his virtuosity and deep connection to the organ repertoire. Kästner's legacy continues to inspire, making him a beloved figure in the world of classical music.
